I like Minsky's. I just can't enthused enough about them to give them more than 3 stars. Don't get me wrong -- they're locally owned, the pies are good, the service is decent, and the River Market location is nice enough. There's just something that doesn't click for me here. Maybe it's the fact that that pies (while good) are overpriced. I don't mind paying more for quality, sure, but we're talking a LOT more than your typical fast food pizza. Maybe it's the lack of online delivery options. Call me a technology slob, but I'd really much rather order it online than over the phone, so I know exactly what I ordered (and have a recourse if they get it wrong). There are place in town that I'll visit if I want a good pie, and sure, Minsky's offers those. I just can't come up with reasons to make it exceptional.

I eat here pretty often, the food is what keeps me coming back. The service depends on the time of day and how busy it is. During busy periods its possible that everyone at the table gets their items at different times, leaving the first person finishing as the last person is just getting served or having all the food go cold if you wait for everyone to be served. The menu is very reasonably priced and they offer great drink specials. This is another place I love to take my house guests to visit while in town. Even when the service is at its worst, the food makes up for everything. Great friendly atmosphere and plenty of TVs for all the games.

Minsky's is growing on me. I must say that the best recommendation that I could give is that ordering a whole pizza and taking it home is much better tasting and quality than doing the slice special. I tried their italian sandwich last week and it wasn't too bad. I'd probably change the bread though since it was a little too hard on the edges to eat. It's a good quick little lunch spot. I'll be back.

Boy do I miss my BBQ Chicken pizza. I love this place and the wings and appetizers. Great for a quick lunch with friends.

Friday at 6:45 I order a medium pizza, wings, and a six pack of soda. It arrives two hours later. Yes...two hours. Christ, I've literally have never waited so long for food. About an hour and a half in I looked at my girlfriend and said, "Did I order a pizza or did I imagine that?" I actually forgot that I ordered food it took so long. So yeah...two hours later this thing comes...COLD. Cold pizza and wings that cost over $30 that we had to wait two hours for. Here's the thing, we all know that Minsky's is overpriced, but we deal with it because it's usually so much better than the major chains...but I'd rather have fresh Pizza Hut that arrives on time than cold, skanky Minsky's that takes two hours. Minsky's, get your sh!t together.

The Combo pizza and fried chicken salad are great. Never get tired of them. Service is good at least on the second level.

Called for delivery, was placed on hold then hung up on. Called back and placed a 50 dollar (2 pizzas) delivery order they charged to my card. Rude girl called back and left a message saying they wouldn't be delivering it and would void my transaction. Upon speaking to a manager it was made clear that while i am 1.86 miles from them via GPS, they don't like my neighborhood and therefore won't deliver. Newsflash, I live in a historic mansion near downtown, not the projects. Regardless, it's racially and economically discriminatory for these places to say "we won't go to that area." As we continue to gentrify downtown this will change but you better believe I won't be supporting them again. My company typically uses them for very large catering deals as well and i am going to go elsewhere with that business as well. Thank you to places like Cafe El Dente for getting it. If you are going to do business in the city then do business in the city.

It's my 3rd trip here. It is conveniently located across the street from a restaurant supply house that I frequent on my breaks. I have only been here for lunch, but I must say, they fire on all cylinders like a well oiled machine. I sit at the bar, I get greeted immediately, get a cold beer right away, and they check back in acceptable amount of time to get my food order. Today, I got the chicken bacon club salad. I ran out of lettuce while eating before I ran out of salad fixins. I can't remember the last time that happened. Boulevard Wheat pints were $3, so I got to enjoy a hearty lunch and a quality beer without going into debt. The only voids in my experience were that the bartender never told me her name and I had to ask what the drink specials were. Otherwise, all is right in the world of the Rivermarket Minsky's. I am glad I stopped in again.

My delivery guy is really nice. And he delivers. The pizza just doesn't do it for me. It's only adequate. But, the sandwiches have been excellent and they have a few veggie options. Thus, I'm a fan. Yay.

On our first night in Kansas City we wanted to go somewhere walk-able in the River Market district, since the temperature was going to drop to the teens and 20s for the rest of our visit. My friends said Minsky's has good pizza, and also had Boulevard Brews for $3. SOLD! You can basically always convince me to go somewhere based off the cheap, but tasty beer selection. Since I was in Kansas City, I definitely needed to have some Boulevard Brews. The pizza we got was tasty. Nothing out of this world, or unique, but good none the less. My favorite was a BBQ pizza on a honey wheat crust. Super tasty! When you buy multiple pizzas you get discounts too. I believe our 2nd pizza was only $10. They also have a 26" pizza. We realized we couldn't eat that much between the 4 of us though, and we wanted to try pizzas with different crusts and sauces. But the novelty is fun. It's located right in the City Market. Probably a good place for a large group for a party, or to watch football. Nothing outstanding, but good, tasty pizza and cheap beer.

This particular Minsky's is only OK. I have had too many bad experiences here to rate them any higher than three stars, and that is probably generous. These yahoos are located almost directly across the street from my building, yet I rarely go here. Why? Well my first experience was dismal! A couple years back during a snow storm (with blizzard warnings) the bf and I decided that pizza would probably best get us through the storm. Who will deliver...no one, but thank goodness Minsky's is still open!! Wrong! We placed our order for what turned out to be an overpriced and cold pie. They gave us an estimated time when to come and pick it up which we used in tandem to take Princess Fuzzy Feet for a jaunt in the snow. Apparently when Minsky's is not busy, the staff just goes for extra LONG smoke breaks and just ignores their one customer walking in past them until they finish another couple cigarettes. Really? A year or so later we decided to chalk that experience up to a bad decision by only two of their rather sad employees and order delivery. Two hours after their estimated delivery time we received our pizza without an apology or refund of their delivery charge...and we got cold pizza! Why three stars then? Well the bf and I recently decided to have a vegetarian meal that could be delivered. With some trepidation we decided to give Minsky's one last try. To my delight they were actually OK on the phone and delivered a full half hour before their estimated time. Amazing! They finally delivered across the street in less than three hours! Turns out that hot Minsky's pizza is pretty good. We got pesto sauce with broccoli and artichoke hearts. I didn't even miss the meat. So, if you are looking for a good vegetarian pizza with more to it than just the standard veggies piled on top (mushrooms and onion), then I would actually recommend this place. I would also recommend just going in and eating there. Any steps you can eliminate for them will certainly help them out, and in turn help you as well.

Freaking Amazing!!! I am a huge pizza fan & Minsky's know what they are doing. I order from them usually once a week & haven't had a bad one yet. Feel free to explore their speciality pizza, you won't be disappointed. My recommendations are the Prime Cut & the Mediterranean. Recently I have been subbing the lamb for chicken & bacon. Enjoy!!!

Pizza is very average and expensive for what you get. The sandwiches are amazing though and the atmosphere is great.

I'm new to the area and have read/heard about Minsky's. We've dined-in, ordered take-out and used delivery. I prefer the dine-in experience, they have good beer specials and we usually choose to sit at the bar. Minsky's has a wide selection of pizza's, salads, apps and sandwiches. It's a great atmosphere for a casual, chill night with a nice variety of TVs for games. The one time we got pizza delivered, it took about an hour and a half, however - it was snowing and conditions were awful, so I'm sure everyone in the neighborhood was ordering pizza with their pay-per-view movie. I enjoy the fact that it's a local, neighborhood-type of place and everyone seems friendly and welcoming. I have a feeling we'll be going back a lot!

Not a bad place at all. Pizza is pretty darn good. Not the best I've ever had and certainly not the worst. Probably the best thing about this place is that it is situated at Rivermarket which has all kinds of cool little shops to hang around in. Not only that there are two stories at this pizza place so you can go upstairs and catch up with old friends and classmates from yesteryear and not have a crippling noise level to compete with. Of course this was during midday so it may be a completely different story at night so...

While I have yet to even try their pizza.....I do like their atmosphere. It's a bar area that is great for bigger groups of people to meet up and just hang out. Ordered a Woodchuck cider here for $5...I don't know if that's pricey or not or if it's cuz my friend paid for my tab and the bartender added her sodas to my cider.......just thought it was a tad expensive. I cam with a group of about 20 people of so.....a bunch of us ordered food and boy was there kitchen slow! I would say easily over an hour of just waiting for them to cook the pizza. And when they did bring it, they didn't bring everyone's food at once....so many people were forced to watch people eat their food while you had to just watch them eat.....stinks. I still had a fun time though with my friends and I would go back....just wouldn't order any food here I guess. Pros: - good spot to just chill with friends - large groups of people are also welcome to come as well...they've got plenty of space...even on Monday Night Football Cons: - kitchen is super slow.....painstakingly slow...just eat before you get here - the bar may have paid me more...but I guess I will never really know since a friend closed my tab Why I gave it a 3..... I just like how this place feels like a dive and you can come here with friends if you want to just relax and hang out. Kitchen is super slow...or at least the night I was there we had to wait an hour just to see some food brought to our table. And the bartender may have made me pay extra...no idea though....I'm just suspicious because my friend ordered 4 shots of this red stuff and h only had to pay $7.....who knows what those shots were...but that's just stupid cheap!

We got take out from here. They made me a cheeseless (I'm lactose intolerant) pizza with onions, garlic, mushrooms, tomato sauce, and olives. It was OK. Nothing great. I've had much better. The dough was just meh and I couldn't eat the crust. I did the rest of the pizza, but I don't think I would order it again. I saw other pizzas that just looked gross that they had delivered to others. No thank you.

This is a great place to watch sports. The space is sectioned off into different areas via multiple levels and there are many TVs. I was able to see every NFL game on Sunday while still being able to carry a conversaetion with my girlfriend. The building is old and they kept many of its distinctive characteristics. Unfortunately, the pizza is not good. Its just plainly generic. It is similar to the pizza chains like Pizza Hut, or Dominos. The crust is thick and doughy. Nothing special here.

Best Pizza in the kansas city area. We go to the River Market Minskys once a week for lunch. Pizza by the slice is always hot and ready. Friendly wait staff and with plenty of t.v's, its a great place to catch up on sports.

I don't even know where to start. We ventured here on a Sunday early afternoon to watch the football games because our friends live in the area & we could walk here. We grabbed a seat and ordered our beers and that was about the best part of the day. We ordered the cheese bread for an app and that took 30 minutes to come out. Seriously? 30 minutes for some cheese melted on bread?! Each of us ordered a sandwich, and those took another 45 to come out. I ordered the ham & swiss which was supposed to come on sourdough. When it arrived at the table, the waitress (I kid you not) said " I accidentally hit the hoagie roll, I hope that's ok." Um ... I guess it has to be since we waited 45 minutes for these to come out! The sandwich was just blah, and hard to eat because the toppings were sliding out of the skinny hoagie roll. When it came time for the check, we told her we'd like it split by couple and that we'd like boxes. 20 minutes later, check comes (all together) and no boxes. I swear the girl didn't listen to a damn thing we said.

I love River Market, but there are better Minsky's, BY FAR. The problem here is service! As in zero customer service! When they delivered an order scheduled for noon at 2pm, I refused to accept it, the delivery dude smashed it all over the elevator! I gave them a second chance (in spite of my boss' raised eyebrow); what can I say? I like Minsky's and didn't want to hold an out of control delivery guy against them - even though their response was less than appropriate! This time the order taker screwed it up, I ordered two days in advance for a meeting and they sent the order over 45 minutes after I ordered it. (BTW, five people heard me place the order.) I refused to accept it explaining to the delivery gentleman that the order was to be delivered in two days - not immediately. This time a much more professional delivery person called the store to explain the error...the woman who took the order started screaming so loud (over the phone, mind you) the entire office heard her rant. Suffice to say...never again from this Minsky's! (Thankfully I live close enough to the South Plaza location I never need to deal with this location being a train wreck ever again!) Management needs to get this location in check...the train is on the edge of the rail!

Pizza was brought to our hotel room and was tasty and correct to the order wwe gave. The pizza was pretty expensive considering the size. A large (super combo minus the onions and italian suasage) fed two of us with nothing left over...Point being the large was a medium to most places standards. Anyway the pie was good and quick to the room. Crust was tasty but the sauce was nothing to write home about. Would I pay the $21 price again for a "large pie"...Probably not.

There are not a lot of good options to watch sports downtown. This place has a score of TVs and mediocre pizza. I'd take Cupini's or IMO's pizza over this stuff any day... but whatever. Be hungover, watch the game, drink a beer.

No no no. Minsky's is horrible. I've been there 3 times now, partially because it's one of the only bars/restaurants with normal business hours in the River Market. But that is seriously 3 times too many. The pizza is shitty, and all of their other food tastes like it came out of a frozen package that was heated up it the oven and then thrown into a dish to be served (and when I say tastes like, I'm pretty positive that's the case. Otherwise, I truly don't think you could make food that bad.) Additionally, the last time I was there (a few weeks ago), I was with a group of coworkers on a Tuesday at 5pm. This is not a busy time for Minsky's. Actually let's be real, happy hour on Friday nights is not even a busy time for this establishment. So regardless of this point, I waited over 30 minutes for buffalo wings that I ordered. I reminded the waitress of my order when I saw other people's food come out, and she said they would be right out. But another 15 minutes went by and they weren't there. So naturally I canceled the order. In response? She gave me the nastiest face like I INCONVENIENCED her with this news and turned away from me without a word. No apology. No grievance. Not even a fake smile. I got nothin'. Since you're on Yelp right now, you have the opportunity to look at different restaurants in the River Market area. Don't go to Minsky's.

Good place to watch sports--lots of big TV screens. Food is average with typical sandwiches, wings and specialty or build your own pizzas and calzones. If you want good pizza in the Rivermarket at crazy low prices, walk a block West to Cafe al Dente instead.

I am kind of in love with this pizza place even though my first visit was recent. I really like the tri-level dining room and found the staff refreshingly down to Earth and helpful. My husband and I tagged along on a road trip of friends who love this place but we weren't necessarily planning to get Italian or pizza at all...but when we walked in the door, the wonderful aroma of Minsky's cheese and sauce hit me and I was suddenly in a pizza mood! Then when I saw other diners with the big cheesy slices, I knew I was in for a good experience. We split a small pizza - I believe it was called Nature's Choice - it had zucchini, peppers, onions, tomato, artichokes, and slivered almonds. It was extremely delicious and we will definitely return. The small 10" was affordable and plenty of food for two. I'd love to try their mini cheeseburger pizza too. They also had some dirt cheap beer specials. Overall, it really reminded me of the kind of pizza restaurants my family frequented in the 1980's and to me that is a very good thing!

At a marathon business meeting, a dozen pizzas were purchased from the River Market Minskys. I inwardly moaned and rolled my eyes. Fat Cheese. Fat crust. Fat meat. Fat me. Blah! Ate salad. Felt bad. Hungry, but not. Hours to go. Blah de bucking blah. Then I spotted pickles on a freaking pizza. I've never seen this before, and I curled up my lip in sneer, grabbed a plate, eyeing the pizza for another clue and put a slice straight to my face. It was so stupid good. Cheeseburger pizza. Stupid good. Mustard, burger, onion, pickle, cheese. Stupid yum good. I loved it. I haven't had it again but I think about it every time I see a Minskys or a mention of their name. Dammit.

In a nutshell Minksy's gets a solid 3 stars for not trying to be anything more than Minksy's. I was very happy that they didn't have a "New York style" anything, because as a New Yorker i judge Pizza pretty harshly. I think they have a pretty extensive menu for a pizza joint, the pizzas here are decent & there's a lot of gourmet options to choose from as well as non pizza options. The Pizza Argentina is definitely one of the best gourmet option they have, while the Italian grilled chicken is THE best non pizza option you can order here. The service can be a bit spotty, the menu is a little pricey & the drinks are (in my opinion) noticeably watered down. But despite the negative i'm usually here once a week, so they must be doing something right.

Order a "Big Papi." It's sort of a locals-only code for a large Papa Minsky. Bacon often overpowers the Prime Cut, so the "Prime Cut no bacon" is always a safe bet for any carnivore.

  • Denise C.

This is one of the worst Minsky's locations to go to. Not only do they barely put any sauce on the pizza, the delivery orders are regularly messed up. Go to Caddyshack. Hands down the best in the downtown/river market area. I love the Minsky's near the plaza, but this one sucks.

  • Emily S.

I really, really wanted to like this place. I mean, it's right down the street, they have great hours by River Market standards, and making our own pizza is so time consuming. We tried the Mediterranean and a Hawaiian. Alas, the pizza had too much flavorless cheese with a doughy crust (we tried both the thin and the regular, with very little difference other than the actual amount of crust). The price was a little too steep ($27 for 2 medium pizzas with a special) for cheap pizza. Sadly, I know we won't be back.

Terrible Pizza and Terrible Service. After calling in our order at 11am we went to pickup the pizzas at 1215pm. The time the waitress stated the order would be ready. At 1215pm they informed us that they had not even started on the order and didn't know when it would be done. As this was pizza for a company lunch, this posed a problem. Our employee then left. The manager called our business and yelled at us for leaving and then referred to our employee as a "f*cker."

My second favorite pizza joint in KC. Best part about it is the unique, gourmet selections they feature. Much different than normal pizza place fare, the gourmet ones offer very different flavors that should suit anyone. From the Argentinean one to the Thai to the cheeseburger, they're all delicious and a great deal, price-wise, when you get them in calzone form. Not a great drink selection or atmosphere, better for takeout.

I remember the first time I had Minsky's was shortly after moving to Kansas City. It was actually at the 39th street location. I think how I would describe Minsky's pizza is that it is more like local (mini chain) version of Pizza Hut or Papa John's. The pizza isn't like New York style, the crust is kind of generic and can be doughy. If you think that places like Papa John's or Pizza Hut have good pizza, then you should really like Minsky's because they do it better. If you prefer a nice hand tossed pizza with high quality meats and cheeses, Minsky's probably isn't going to be that great. When I moved downtown (years ago) my friends and I would walk down to the River Market, and go to this Minsky's location, usually on a Sunday afternoon and get a couple of pies and drink way too much. We moved on to other places, my tastes changed pretty quickly, but it was a good time while it lasted. This location is a pretty decent sports bar, lots of big screens showing the games. I still have the pizza from time to time, usually they will order it where I work now from this location. It usually has plenty of toppings and then covered with so much cheese that you can't even see those toppings. There are several choices for crust, I prefer either the thin or the wheat, as the "hand tossed" is a little doughy for me. I usually get the BBQ pizza or either the Prime Cut (pep, ham, sausage, beef, and full strips of bacon) or the Papa Minsky's (pep, roasted red peppers, and salami). The also have quite a few sandwiches (hot and cold) as well as calzones and pasta dishes. The service here can be hit or miss, usually depends if you resemble someone who is likely half cocked and will leave a big tip if flirted with enough. My main problem with Minsky's is that the pizza just isn't special, but they want to charge special prices for it, it's not worth it to me. You could go to a lot of other places that offer more unique choices and just better crafted pizza, that doesn't look like it came out of some factory. A few come to mind... Grinder's, Art of Pizza, even D' Bronx (of which I'm not a huge fan), Pizza Bella, but these are also different styles, if you want to try real local KC pizza, I would recommend Waldo Pizza.

Rivermarket Location: Decent Philly Cheesteak. My gripe with this establishment is the manager. My colleague tells me he has seen on 2 occasions him just ripping into employees in the front of the room where patrons walk in. Also the entire time we were eating he kept coming out eye f*&king us every 5 minutes or so. I also second matt e's review "tragically hip cooks" - add wait staff to that as well.

First I want to start with the positive...pizza is awesome!!! Atmosphere is awesome...great for sports or just hanging out with friends...food come pretty fast...here's the negative---service is horrendous...absent minded servers and slow bartenders...been there a few times and each time it takes 20 min before someone comes by and takes an order..you will sit there with an empty glass for a while...if it was just about the pizza I would give it 5 stars but overall service is laughable...if ur in a hurry good luck ...

I've never had a problem with this Minsky's. I'm most familiar with this one and the one at 50ish & Main. The food is consistent with both and the service has never been a problem. I've ordered from the sandwiches, pastas, and the pizzas, and never had any real gripes about any of the food coming out of this location. I've also never experienced any major service problems here. Maybe it wasn't as fast as it could have been due to lack of staff, but nothing that was ever a burden. I agree the pizzas are a bit overpriced, but the wheat crust is a nice change and there's a wider variety of toppings. Get hooked up with some local grade schoolers selling fundraiser discount cards. Minsky's usually has a deal on those things. I think the pastas are actually a pretty good deal and you get a couple breadsticks. The sandwiches are not too shabby, nothing special, but also a good deal.

No small choices like small pizza w salad, but then after I was done the guys behind me ordered a tostada pizza which if the wardress's had thought about it should have suggested it, I asked for a salad and pizza combo, so the tostada is what I would have order. I went in to really watch the Yankee's twins game one playoff game. placed my order then one of the wardresses started to vacuum the upper level with the sonic vacuum, I should not have had to ask the bartender to have her knock it off, needless to say she just wanted to get the hell out of there. 17 bucks and a 4 $ tip and i have 3 slices for bfast.. good music (vintage rock) lots of sprots on TV and a view... good neighborhood spot , I will be back and maybe order a small size.. a manager or owner thanked me for coming in, nice touch as I may have been one of the older or more professional patrons at this hour.

woefully overrated. Everybody in this town seems to get moist at the mention of Minskys, and I just don't get it! Everything but the pizza = crap. Pizza = passable. It takes their tragically hip cooks what seems like an hour to get a pie out, and the service is generally spotty. Delivery takes AGES!!!!! I live 2 blocks from this place. One time I was sick and wanted pizza and decided to give them another shot but didn't want to leave the house. I waited seriously almost 2 hours. This entire restaurant seems to have no sense of urgency. I feel as if they feel like they can rest on their reputation and not try and impress people. I just don't get it. Pass.

I've gone there twice in the past two weeks. Why? You ask NOT because of the help up front but because of the tasty pizza!! First time was during lunch. Walked in and they said my pizza would be ready in 15 min..... 45 min later when I asked for my money back one of the ladies said that she had to get the manager and miraculously showed up with my pizza a couple of minutes later. Second time was tonight and pizza was ready on time and I asked one of the delivery drivers if they delivered to a certain area and his response was a rude and emphatic NO. "Well.....not during the evening". He said that he purposely works at night so he doesn't have to deliver to my area. Even offered a big tip if he delivered to my area and the answer was still the emphatic no. I just found that a bit insulting..... Pizza is a bit over priced but always tasty.

I will start off by saying if this review were based solely on food it would be much higher, but needless to say, it isn't. I have been to this location before a while back and had impeccable service, but the last couple times I have gone it has definitely been lacking. We went the night of a show at the River Market, so we knew that it was going to be busy and expected a bit of a wait, but the fact that all three tables around us were seated after us, received drinks and ordered food before we even saw our waitress was inexcusable, since it was in fact the same waitress. Upon coming over several times, forgetting drinks, then coming over nearly an hour later after realizing she hadn't taken the order, we finally received our sandwiches after being there over an hour and a half. At which point most of the tables around us had been served and were leaving. Overall I would say make this a place for takeout or delivery, but skip eating at the establishment.

I wish I could give Minsky's two-and-a-half stars...its not so bad. Its just that the crust is too think/chewy, but more importantly, there was so much not-particularly-flavorful cheese on my pizza that I could barely taste the toppings. Also, our waitress wasn't so great--she showed up about 12 seconds after we sat down and then another 30 seconds later when, shockingly, we still hadn't decided on what we wanted to eat. If you like really cheesy pizza, you will probably like Minsky's. However, if, like me, you strive for balance, ask them to go light on the cheese. That's what I'm planning on doing next time. Next time, you ask? Yes, I do plan on going back. Minsky's is a stone's throw from my apartment and has a really great set up for watching sports, so I'm sure it is only a matter of time before my husband and I return with friends to watch a game.

I wouldnt say the pizza here is bad, but I wouldnt say its that good either. Minsky's makes a typical midwestern pizza with a thick, doughy crust and strange toppings. Pretty far from the "gourmet" they purport to serve.

I will eat this pizza in a pinch (they deliver), but I am not a huge fan. Crust is thick and doughy and the sauce taste like tomato paste that needs to be thinned. If you are a sports fan, go here to watch everything at once and get an OK meal, there is more on the menu then just pizza.

Minsky's has the best calzones I've tasted in Kansas City yet. They have a "create your own" calzone option with a long list of items you can include. I tend to get Italian sausage, pepperoni x 2 and basil most of the time. Yeah. It's so delicious. Especially after you've been out all night. The boyfriend likes adding pineapple to his. And their crusts are so doughy. They're almost the best part of the calzone. But not quite. The do have gourmet pizzas but I've never tried any of them. I've fallen in love with calzones and I'll never go back.

We had a late night downtown last weekend and by late I mean 9:30PM-yes we are old.... I did my usual Yelpy search for Gluten free in the area and Minksy's came up. We had heard of Minksy's before so we decided to give it a shot. I called the order in, I had no idea what gluten free options they had and the girl on the phone was super duper helpful. I ordered two 8 inch Gluten Free's, one with ham, pineapple and banana peppers (mine, I have better taste-buds) and one with sausage, ham and pep. Now those of you out there that order GF pizza's, you know the crust is usually soggy, the toppings don't reach the edge of the pizza and it's bland as hell. Not so at this Minksy's location. I was very impressed with their gluten free pizza, and that is saying a lot. I am very picky about it so I usually make my own at home. The pizza was perfect size for one person, it was hot and cheesy. All my toppings had really good flavor, normally the pineapple tastes canned. The banana peppers were the right amount of hot and the crust was cooked perfect! Jason's meat lover style pizza was even tasty that I took a few bites. We ate both our pizza's by the time we arrived home. The cashier girl was friendly and helpful. The price was not outrageous like most GF places-18 bucks for two pizzas. At mellow mushroom it would be over $25 for one 12 inch.

Not my favorite. I ordered a mini pizza and order of spaghetti and meatballs. The mini pizza is really fucking small and they put the pepperoni under the cheese so they don't get that nice crispy char that makes pepperoni even more delicious. The spaghetti doesn't come with enough sauce so I had a lot of bland noodle only bites. The one positive mark I would say is the value for the money. My total was about $11 and these two items will last me 2-3 meals. Still on the hunt for a delicious pie in KC. Any recs?

Fantastic value! Great pizza at great prices and a great atmosphere. Sports stream live and create a good atmosphere for friends to gather and spend time together. I can create my own specialty pizza of choice - healthy versions low on cheese Servers are knowledgeable and caring and know their products well. I love going here whenever I'm in town.

As someone from out of town, I was delighted to find a pizza place to end my day of sight seeing. Not only was the pizza excellent, but the service was wonderful. Our server, Chris, moved some smokers down wind when it became apparent that our table and another were becoming annoyed with the pollution. Also, the bar tender, Britta, was wonderful. I had fallen earlier in the day and she was kind enough to make the trip upsatirs to the office to get me some neosporin. Too many people would have just said that the store didn't have any. (Thank you Britta, it really helped.) So not only did I love my pizza (extra cheese, garlic & rosemary) but the service was exceptionally good. Yummy. Should I ever be back in this area, I will visit again.

This was my first time visiting this location and after this experience I will never go to another minsky's again. I came with my friend, her son, and mother. I'm a vegan and they aren't so we were ordering different things. I told the waiter I was a vegan while I was ordering. We even had a conversation about what was on the bread sticks. I ordered a house salad without the eggs and croutons and a fruit bowl. My friend and her mother ordered the prime cut pizza and wings. I received my order of fruit, and they received their wings. But after waiting somewhere around 40 minutes nothing else had been received. The waiter came and said there was an issue with printing the receipt and we would get the order shortly. They finally got their pizza, I still hadn't received my salad. After waiting some more it finally came, however the salad had eggs on it. I told the waiter it wasn't supposed to have eggs. He got an attitude and said "are you allergic" I'd already told him I was a vegan. This man actually took his bare hands, put it in my salad and removed the eggs. Then he tried to hand me the plate. We all just stared at him in shock. I said I didn't want it and he looked puzzled that I'd said no. We asked to speak to a manager and told him what happened. He didn't seem surprised by the situation. He only told us not to worry about the ticket. This is my issue with this, one bad employee can ruin your establishment. The manager didn't indicate that he would deal with this employee. I've never been to any restaurant in my life and been treated in such a manner. Before I left the manager asked if I wanted anything else. I just told them to give me some hummus and pita bread. It took forever for that to come. I just took it with me and I didn't eat it something did not feel right about that. I used to frequent the location on 39th and in kansas but now I will never visit one again after this. I'll share this experience with others because this was just not right. I wrote to the company but never heard anything back from them about it.

This place has some really good pizza from what I can tell. I tried Minsky's a while back but couldn't remember what I had or if it was any good. I decided to come to this location for lunch since it was closest to the job. When I went in, I noticed that the places was pretty dark. I could barely find the person that I was meeting there. It wasn't packed and didn't seem that busy. As far as the pizza goes, the crust is really good and my overall pie was pretty good as well. I got the mini seafood elite but was a little disappointed in the size. The service could've been better and is what made the decision on them not getting 4 stars. I asked the waitress what size the mini was and she told me that it came with 4 slices. 4 slices doesn't really tell me how big the pizza is, but I figured it couldn't be THAT small for $7. It also took the waitress a while to take our order and to get our checks once we were done eating. When she asked if we wanted our check, I asked her to give us 2 desperate bills. She brought us one check and walked off before I could tell her to split it again. When she finally came back, I asked her to split the checks (which took her a while to do as well). The place didn't seem that busy or maybe she was the only waitress there today, but I figured the service would be a little faster on my lunch break. I would imagine that's when the service would need to be the fastest. Overall.....the pizza was good, but the service could have been better. I'd go back to try a different type of pizza, but I'd be sure I had a little more time in case the service is slow.

This is my all time favorite pizza and oh how I've craved it on a weekly basis since moving away from KC. The river market location has the best atmosphere. I love the three tiered balcony layout. This is the most ideal location if you're into sports and looking to have some pizza and beer and watch the game. There are TVs and projection screens everywhere. There's a pretty good bar as well. The parking kinda stinks in all months except the winter months. Now, my favorite part: the pizza. I like my pizza how I like my men. Hot and cheesy... er saucy? Just kidding. The pizza has never disappointed. Ever. I dream about its cheesiness. They serve other things besides pizza, but you'd be crazy to not order a pizza.

While the food is always good, the service is annoying. Never a bartender at the bar. Wait staff is inattentive. It should not take almost 5 minutes to get noticed at the bar when the place is half empty. And another 2-3 minutes before you can order a neverage. This is the 3rd time in a row the service has sucked. Might be time to go to Winslow' s instead. ....

We were staying in one of the downtown hotels, and looking for a place to grab some pizza, that would deliver. We were a little put off by the ratings being so low, but it turns out the pizza we ordered was really very good. We ordered the Medium original crust, with Italian sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. It took a tad longer than we had hoped to get to us, but I attribute that to our hunger more than their tardiness. They were only a couple of minutes late. The pizza wasn't piping hot when it arrived, but it was still hot. The delivery person was friendly, as well. The ingredients were great! The crust was delicious, it wasn't over-whelming on the sauce, and the ingredients didn't come across as the "cheap alternatives". It was the real deal, and I would certainly order from here again.

We wanted a quick bite of something local as we were doing a stop at the city market on our way through KC. This worked out great. Their lunch slice special (slice, salad, drink) was a good deal. My wife enjoyed the BBQ chicken & I liked the combo. Lots of cheese, good crispy crust, served hot.

This is the meeting point for all Royals games we attend. We are very happy with their beer and liquor prices. Their food and service is phenomenal. We miss Levi who always took care of us but Jon and Maggie picked up where he left off, always having our glasses full. Love this place!!!

I'm a huge fan of Minsky's in general, and I have only experienced great service from this location. I've talked with multiple members of the staff, and I feel very welcomed every time I come in or get delivery. It's affordable, and Minsky's actually makes pizza -- the kind that's not soaked in grease before you get it. And they add LAYERS of cheese, which is awesome. I am gluten-free, and it is a huge pain trying to find places that can tailor to my food sensitivities. Sometimes gluten-free foods can be very bland, but I enjoy the Minsky's gluten-free pizza. Hands down best pizza in the river market / business district area downtown. Thank you for all that you do!

I've been here before and did not care for the atmosphere although the pizza was ok. It's kind of divey and not in a way that I like. So, I called in my order. It was ready when I got there. The people were attentive and polite. Still didn't care for the atmosphere but that's okay. I wasn't staying. Got the pizza home...soggy. There were plenty of generous and tasty toppings and the pizza had a nice flavor but the crust was soft and soggy. I could see that it was baked properly, just soggy. Don't know why. I'll go again, because I like Minsky's pizza and I like that it's locally owned but I was disappointed with this trip.

Stopped in here briefly on a Sunday afternoon following a Chiefs game. We sat on what I guess was the second level (there appear to be three).... at eye level with an entire series of flat screen TVs, it's the best place to sit based on my brief experience at Minsky's. My friend and I didn't have pizza.... just a sandwich and appetizers, respectively, but the food was good as was the service. Minsky's is also in a nice part of town.... parking is right next door and highways are nearby. Overall, I'd love to spend a Sunday afternoon watching sports here if I were ever back in Kansas City. Nice place!

I ate at this establishment while visiting Kansas City. To get to the point the food was descent but nothing to be amazed by. I've had wayyyyyy better pizza for half the cost. On the upside our server was great, I wish I could remember his name. I'm sure Kansas City has better pizza somewhere just wish I would have found it!

I'm continually on the fence about this Minsky's location in the always hip River Market. I find myself giving it chance after chance and continue to woefully underwhelmed. In a word, Minsky's River Market is inconsistent. Lunch today was like any other lunch here. I walked in around 11:30 and was one of the only patrons in the joint. Service was prompt and I had a drink on the table in no time flat. By the time my friend arrived, there were a few more souls braving the frigid conditions inside the eatery. We ordered our food, two sandwiches with fries, about 11:40 and that's where the trouble began....per the usual. The food didn't arrive until 12:10 as we watched others around us served before us. These folks were all eating single slice pizzas or whole pies for the table. I'm not sure if these were pre-made or if sandwiches take a backseat to pizzas here. At any rate, the food came out hot and the fries were sizzling as well - thankfully not just sitting under the hot lamp. I'm back at work now and chugging water - the fries and turkey ruben, though hot, were tremendously salty. The food was "meh" as usual which is disappointing consider the storied history of Minsky's in the KC area. Other locations around the Metro are divine. College and Pflumn in OP? Top notch. Kansas City North? Also bumping and delicious. This River Market location has a chance to be great. The inside and design of the place scream sports bar with potential. The lower bar level, middle balcony level, and upper level replete with a private room are built to please. It's just too bad the quality and timing of the food isn't. I'll inevitably give Minsky's another shot in my standard waiting period of 4 months. One more mediocre experience here and I might just call it quits for good. Until then, there are better options around the River Market area, and other Minsky's locations to explore around the city.

I'm new to the area, but I can already tell that I'll be coming back to Minsky's over and over again. My first experience here was when my brother was visiting and we wanted to grab another drink before we called it a night. We sat at the bar and both ordered a beer. The friendly bartender suggested we split a pitcher to save some money, so we went with it! The end of the Royals game was on a few of the many TV screens on the wall. It wasn't very crowded for a weekend, but that was kind of nice. I returned there recently to have some pizza and catch a Royals game while I was studying. I sat upstairs to get a better view of the big projection of the game and to get away from the crowd a bit. It was a Thursday night and most of the tables were full, but it wasn't overly noisy or rowdy. A few times there were some whoops about the game, but mostly it was a laid back vibe. I was able to get some studying done without feeling out of place. Though I couldn't get the wi-fi to work which was frustrating. As for the food, I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza. It was quite good! Lots of places don't put enough spice in their buffalo sauce, but that was not the case here! The waitress was very nice, but there were a couple of times where I felt like she wasn't paying enough attention to me. For instance she took a very long time getting me another beer, forcing me to hold off on further pizza consumption until I had something to wash it down with. So, I guess if you're really in a rush this might not be the best place for you. However, if you want to chill out with some good pizza and catch the game, I think this is a great spot.

Tasty pizza. The location I frequent in the City Market has been slowly improving. I still will not sit in the dining area because I usually get lack luster service. So I recommend you get a place at the bar or carry out. I also dropped them to 3 stars because of the service. Perhaps they have noticed and now the bar tender will do some back up of the server staff so customers don't sit around staring at the walls waiting to get water and a menu. One of my favorite versions is to add bacon to the Five Star Cheese pizza. So ridiculously good. After you pick up a slice the cheese slightly oozes off the pizza. The perfect sign there is the right amount of cheese. The right amount of alfredo sauce accompanies the pie.... just the perfect amounts of everything. Add the bacon and you will be a happy camper. The standard pies are delicious as well. Before my love affair with the Five Star, me and the Prime Cut had a thing going, and before that Papa Minsky was the go to pie. The pizza is just excellent in many varieties. The pizza has the perfect amount of ingredients, cheese, and temperature. They get it just so and it is good.

Let me start out with I LOVE Minskys pizza....in saying that we had a HORRIBLE customer service experience. Our table was dirty and we had to REQUEST that it be wiped off and cleaned. The worst part of the afternoon was that we specifically went to a sports oriented spot because The Royals were on!!! They have numerous tv's which is awesome...but I had to ask for The Royals broadcasting be turned on so we could hear/experience the game instead of the terrible music playing. The server told us that they had the game broadcasting on earlier but "no one was here...so sure I'll have them turn it on." After one entire inning there was still no broadcasting...I asked again and the server told me the manager couldn't figure it out. Um really? Keep in mind there were 15 other people watching also so we were all cheering to a muted game and annoying music. I asked a 2nd time and asked to talk to the manager...server response was "they're trying to figure it out". One last time I asked if the manager seriously couldn't figure out the system. I said "have them call someone who knows". The server then said "I can call one of my managers and see if they can tell me how"....wait? Isn't the MOD your manager and shouldn't THEY either know this or shouldn't THEY be calling someone? NEVER GO THERE TO WATCH A GAME...just in case the manager doesn't know how to work the tv's (if they are there at all). It's your hometown team playing as the only undefeated team--TOTAL FAIL!

The best pizza in town. They are known for their TVs that show all of the sports. The staff is very friendly and they have specials on beer, if you are a beer drinker.

This is the perfect place to catch a game and have a tall can of Rolling Rock. Tasty appetizers and a variety of gourmet pizzas mean you'll be able to satisfy your cravings, especially if you opt for the honey wheat crust. The service is generally attentive, although the stadium seating effect has got to slow down the servers. It would be unwise to bestow Minsky's with the 'Best Pizza' award, but if you're looking for a laid back atmosphere with a lot of TV's, this is the place.

Ok ... I'm a self professed pizza snob/addict. Love it. Grew up in Chicago on some of the best on the planet. Was in KC got a meeting over the weekend and after a couple nights of BBQ we were looking for something different. Someone mentioned pizza ... lady at the front desk of the hotel said Minsky's was the place to go. We were very happy she did! This place had a cool local joint feel. Not fancy but perfect to grab a beer, some za and the ball game. Wasn't sure what to expect from the pizza but we were all very pleased! We had their hand tossed and it was really good! So much so that I would make it a point to go back there next time I'm in KC! Awesome flavor, lots of toppings, great crust. If your in the mood for some solid pizza and beer ... this place delivers!

I met up with friends and family at Minsky's for pizza on a Saturday night after a long day of shopping. Great casual family environment to catch up or watch a game. The staff was very friendly. They offered gluten-free and dairy- free pizza options. My pizza was good, my husband's was great, ...I should always trust my instinct when ordering. I had the Mediterranean, which has delicious lamb meat as a topping, but the pieces were few and far between. I also chose the deep dish which is not the best option here in my opinion. Hubs got the Jumbo Combo, which is more like a meat lover's type of pie on a thin whole wheat crust. Excellent. A friend ordered the cheeseburger pizza which was also excellent! Like a classic cheeseburger in pizza form, yum. We found ourselves sitting and chatting here until we were the only ones left. Great pizza place.

Seeing as how I am within walking distance of this Minsky's, I hit up this place a lot. Like, at least once a week. However, unlike, most, I don't really go there for the pizza often - I tend to get the salad instead. The salads here will fill you up - guaranteed. Not only just your standard lettuce, onion, tomato, but also tons of whatever meat you got in the salad and bacon. Mmm...bacon. Plus two breadsticks. Most filling salad ever. The pizza, well, I've rarely had a pizza I didn't like, but this is pretty good pizza. Not quite worth the price you pay for it, but one of the top 5 in KC. Beer specials rotate throughout the week, but are pretty standard. I've yet to run into anything truly "special."

We couldn't decide what to get, and many of the gourmet options sounded delightful, so we bought 4 "mini" pizzas. My husband got an Italian sausage, I got the Natural Veggie and we split the Combo and the BBQ chicken. OMG delightful! The crust is thick and doughy, with just enough crisp on the bottom to make it stand up. The toppings are fresh and delicious. The kids both got cheese/pepperoni and I stole a bite of those too - very good. Definitely better than the microwaved junk they would get as a "pizza" in any other restaurant! Will visit again next time we're in KC!

I'm sorry to see that this Minsky's has such low ratings. I've never been inside of it, so I cannot attest to the cleanliness or the competence of the in-house staff, but when I order for delivery (all too frequently) I've never had an issue. This is probably because I'm a ridiculous over-tipper (the result of spending 5 years chauffeuring pies) and they know it. Therefore, much like fattening up the bartender early and often, you get priority. It's always delivered by one of two dudes. One is tall and thin, with a shock of red hair and eyeglasses that say, 'I like to draw my own comic books.' He's the best, because he always manages to get into my building without me having to go down and find him. He seems with it, too, and that's a pretty solid quality to have in a pizza man. The other guy is quite short, with heavy, white-guy dreadlocks. He gives you a contact-high just by looking at him and he's friendly as well. The only reason he's not as good as Big Red is because he sometimes has difficulty getting into the building and once he's in, locating your door. The product itself is awesome. Having worked at the Minsky's in Lee's Summit for a chunk of time, I can attest to the freshness of the ingredients. The dough is made fresh several times daily, the chicken breasts are seasoned and cooked in house and the cheese is hand-shredded from the block each morning. Pretty impressive considering the practices I've seen at other pizza places. And I think it shows in the taste. Sure the pizzas aren't always a 'circle' and the cooks may have 'forgotten to take it out of the oven' because of a 'hackey-sack tournament,' but for the most part, it's pretty consistent. I've never had the sandwiches at this location, but they've been good at other locations. The pizzas are the real story, though. The Philly pizza is fantastic, the 5-star cheese medley is outstanding, the one whose name I can't remember with the lamb sausage, sun-dried-tomatoes, feta cheese and a pesto sauce is insanely good... They do a fine job with the standards, as well. Don't mess with the appetizers, though. It's all pretty blase, sub-standard frozen junk. Stick to the pizza and tip the drivers well to ensure expedient future deliveries. They'd get a 5 star review if they were a little more in-touch with pizza-pricing structure. While I don't expect $10 pizzas like the big-boys are selling, having a better deal for multiple-pizza orders would be nice.

Soggy pizza? Yep, that is the name of the game here. Worst service you have ever had at a pizza joint? Check. Total time it took to eat lunch here: 2 hours, 10 minutes. Total tip giving to non-existent waitress: $0

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
